Faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. It means to be true to yourself and acceptance of who you are.
Nearly 24 years later, the memories of 9/11 still haunt me — the soot, the silence, the search for life. I also carry the lasting cost: cancer from the toxic air we were told was safe. This is my story, my pain, my truth.
As the world becomes more dysfunctional giving birth to more intolerances than acceptance, it begs the question. Does being true to yourself mean you must change your beliefs to accommodate others? At what point does being courteous and compassion transition to changing yourself to please others and deny who you are? It happened to me and is something I will never forget. At the time when this situation occurred, I was disturbed by the conversation and felt chastised for being Catholic. It was not only inappropriate but an act of sheer discrimination.
