Exploring the Relationship between AI and Perception: Can We Trust What We See?

In today’s digital age, images play a significant role in our lives. We capture photos to preserve memories, share moments with our loved ones, and even use them for professional purposes. When it comes to the relationship between AI and Perception, can we trust what we see?

Images are also important for business, law enforcement and for use in government. However, with the increasing use of the latest AI image generation tools and other image editing software, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to determine the authenticity of an image much less its origin. How do we know that what we see is real? At this point, we don’t unless we can confirm its authenticity.

Portrayals and Perceptions Of AI and Why They Matter

Is every image authentic? How can we be certain that what we are seeing is true and not altered? What makes an image real? Image verification, also known as photo forensics, is the process of analyzing digital images to determine their authenticity. It involves examining various aspects of the image, such as its metadata, pixel patterns, and compression artifacts, to determine if the image has been altered or manipulated in any way.

The importance of image verification cannot be overstated, especially in today’s world, where fake news and misinformation are rampant. Images can be used to spread propaganda, defame individuals or organizations, or even to create deepfakes, which can be used to deceive people. Everyone is an open target. This especially applies to businesses because there is a larger profit to be gained at a faster pace.
